As Lead Engineer you own the interfaces between disciplines rather than a discipline of your own. Technica works as EPC-M contractor on utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects across Europe, where several organisations produce engineering at the same time and each is confident their part is correct. You read the design as one system, find the assumption in one discipline that quietly breaks another, and decide — while people are still in the room — which of two defensible answers the project will build to.
Key responsibilities
- Own the technical interfaces between electrical, civil, structural and control disciplines
- Review and comment design packages across disciplines, reading them as one system
- Hold the technical thread from employer’s requirements through detailed design to installation
- Run the design review and document process with external design partners
- Set what external design houses and suppliers must deliver, and judge what comes back
- Close open technical items before they turn into site changes
- Resolve disagreements between parties and defend the answer the project builds to
- Be the person the project manager calls when it is unclear whose problem something is
About you
- Typically 7–10 years of engineering experience — a centre of gravity, not a cut-off
- Genuine strength in more than one of: electrical and power systems, SCADA/IT-OT, or mechanical, structural and geotechnical works
- Delivered something where the disciplines had to be forced to fit together
- Background may be EPC, owner’s engineering, design consultancy, a utility, an IPP or heavy industrial delivery
- Comfortable deciding before all the information is available, and living with it
- Willing to be corrected by specialists, and find that interesting rather than threatening
- Fluent in English; Danish useful but not required
- Willing to travel to project sites and design partners across Europe
